Bordeaux and The Loire versus The New World
Two-thirds of wine consumed in the UK now comes from New World countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Argentina. This is partly thanks to smart marketing and distribution, but also as an inevitable result of big improvements in the quality of wine-making in the Southern Hemisphere. But can the 'new kids on the block' really compete with the best that France has to offer?
Join us on this special tasting as we pitch wines from Bordeaux and The Loire Valley against those from either New Zealand Australia,Chile or South Africa. We'll try six different wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc and the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot-based 'Bordeaux Blends'. We'll also look at the influence of soil, climate and wine-making methods.
All wines are sourced locally so you can find them easily if you like them. No previous experience is necessary and full tasting notes, tutored tasting and use of professional tasting glasses is included.
