Cheese and Beer Tasting- ONLINE

Cheese and Beer Tasting- ONLINE

If you love cheese half as much as we do then we know that you’ll love pairing tasty cheese with wine, gin, whisky and even beer!

That’s right, here at Wine School we don’t just talk about wine, we love celebrating all the tasty drinks especially if we get to pair them with cheese…

In this tasting we focus on pairing cheeses with Beer. Your host is drinks tutor Neil Bull, who has a secret passion for Beer! Neil will teach you how to taste the cheeses as well as the Beers and then show you how to bring the two skills together to create amazing pairings. Neil will also touch on the production techniques for both to help you understand why they taste the way they do.

Neil has selected 4 delicious cheeses to taste with 2 very different beers.

The Beers -

  • Franziskaner Hefe Weissbier - The original fresh wheat beer taste. Franziskaner Hefe-Weißbier Naturtrüb is a natural and elegant Weissbier from Bavaria, made since 1363 and the name derives from a nearby Franciscan monastery.
  • Fuller’s London Porter – this rich, dark and complex ale is brewed beside the Thames and takes its name from the Porters who carried goods around the street of London in the 18th century.

You can pick up these specific beers from your local Waitrose store or you will find beers in a similar style at your local supermarket.

The Cheeses -

  • Lancashire  e.g Kirkhams Lancashire Third-generation Lancashire-maker Graham Kirkham still follows the traditional two-day curd method of making Lancashire cheese, giving a buttery, yoghurty flavour with a fluffy and light texture that melts in the mouth.
  • Mature Cheddar - e.g. Black bomber, Black Bomber Extra Mature Cheddar Cheese is a moreish blend of rich, sharp flavours and has a smooth creaminess on the palate. It’s creamy and sharp, but balanced with a certain sweetness. A good alternative would be Cornish Quartz Cheddar– from Waitrose
  • Gruyere – This is the classic ‘mountain cheese’ of France and Switzerland. Gruyere is made from full fat raw milk and depends on a high temperature scald to dry the curd properly so the cheese is able to have a long ageing period of 8-14 months.
  • Spicy cheese - e.g. Waitrose Cheddar with Chilli – We wanted to test how well the chilli heat goes with the beers. This particular cheese is delicious wenh melted on toast, so get the grill warmed up!

As with all our cheese events we have teamed up with Partisan Cheese Monger and Deli in Guildford to arrange a special selection for all the evenings links to the events and prices can be viewed here . Cheeese for Beer evening
